Gurdjieff was a mystic and philosopher of Armenian-Greek origin, born in the Russian Empire, likely around 1866. He spent decades traveling through Central Asia and the Middle East, seeking ancient spiritual wisdom.
He developed “The Fourth Way,” a system combining Eastern mystical practices with Western psychology, aimed at awakening human consciousness. Gurdjieff taught that most people live mechanically, without true awareness, and must practice self-remembering to achieve inner transformation.
He founded the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man in France and authored several influential works, including Beelzebub’s Tales to His Grandson and Meetings with Remarkable Men. His teachings continue to guide seekers, spiritual teachers, and therapists to this day.
